A Teacher’s Journal: A Teacher’s Hope

Summer vacation is the ideal time to review for the college entrance test, and is therefore the busiest time for review centers.

As an English teacher, I handle grammar and… writing. Believe me, it is not an easy subject to teach. TO WRITE is something. TO TEACH how to write is something else..
But I was IN for a great surprise, for when asked about the ‘greatest challenge’ their generation is facing, a lot of my students answered ‘global warming’, ‘preservation of environment’ and ‘over-dependence to technology’.

I was NOT just HAPPY. I was HOPEFUL. These young people, who I thought mind nothing but the latest cellphone model, the coolest haircut, the hottest PSP game, and the newest You-tube craze.. actually think about the REAL CHALLENGES.
And I can say I misjudged these people and I owe them my sincere apology. Then I started thinking and started hoping that they really will make a difference. I may not live long enough to see that day, but I am happy and proud that I have been their teacher even just for a very short while..

I really wish them luck. This post is for them.. Good luck, guys!

Letting out the best of your students makes you a great teacher.
Yes, the new generations have their own concern about the critical condition of Mother Earth and it also depends on how their teachers guide them how they can show and do their best to save it.
Btw, Happy Mother's day, great mom and teacher!

Students are by nature idealistic. It is when they graduate and are exposed to the phoniness of society and adults that they lose their innate idealism and become deadened themselves. Adults must set correct examples to these young idealists so that they can preserve their idealism. Thanks for the meaningful post. God bless you always.

Thats a challenging and noble job mommy kimmy. sometimes we under estimate this kids because we based on their act and every responses on our classes and lessons but they really do think about the country and world as well as observed everything around them. Even the grade school may sarili rin palang opinyon ano mommy kimmy. I was surprised one day when I was still teaching grade 6 in the mountain school. I handled civics and cultures then i had one question about current events, gosh tinalo pa ako sa mga ideas nga mga batang yun. kids are smart. Good luck sa mga nag rereview hope you guys pass whatever exams or class you are taking. enjoy teaching mommy kimmy thanks for the post

That's really very inspiring. I hope so many more of our youth today are concerned about these issues as well.
